Here is a list of toxic and safe food for budgies.
Vegetables: You can feed your budgies vegetables every day or every other day.
Fruits: Once a week is enough to give your budgies fruits as a treat, because fruits contain a lot of sugars.
Nuts: They are very healthy for budgies because they are rich in proteins and are very tasty. NOTE: Nuts contain fatty oils, which is best to feed your budgies once a week or even less.

i live in Pakistan.every body in Pakistan says once a week budgies should lick salt rock.and one who breeds them do not remove salt rock i think sir you have written wrong it should be safe i mean salt should me safe if we give them once a week.sir you have written wrong.
Actually I believe salt is toxic. while us humans can tolerate more salt before we get high blood pressure, but birds have much smaller bodies that can kill them faster
No Salt is very toxic, it can tolerate fine amount already included in some foods if given once in two months (not sure). It not only increases blood pressure it harms their vital organ kidney. If humans consume salt in excess it could harm kidney because of blood pressure.
Its sugar that is the problem, not salt
It is sugar and salt that are toxic please don’t give your bird sugar or salt
I also live in Pakistan and every parrot breeded says that once a week budgies should lick salt rock
They should have a Mineral Block and Cuttle Bone.
It not salt it’s Mineral Block and Cuttle Bone.
Salt is toxic to budgies
salt is very dangerous for birds I think you should get your bird for a check-up sir didn’t write wrong maybe you just fed them wrong plus to make sure you should search google if its safe
sir it will kill your budgies and when you give them it then the water will be gone and it will kill them
Both salt and sugar are needed but in very small amounts. And as Budgies are among the small species, they require a very very small amount, which they generally intake from the food we provide and minerals. Budgies diet should be a balanced diet, we should focus on greens & seed mix for healthy living.
Eggplant is toxic for budgies?Why?
Only the plant, the vegetable itself is safe
because it has a hi base of water and it is easy to give them to much on top of the water they should regularly have
Eggplant is not toxic but the plant is toxic.
Because it is a nightshade plant and contains solumin which is toxic same as tomato plant.
Thank you so much for creating a website like this. It is so helpful. Especially this table. I don’t know if this site is profitable or not but you don’t care about money and you wish to help everyone else. May God bless you.
Thank you Ajay ❤
This table is super helpful. Thank You so much!
I can’t find if purple cabbage is safe for my birds
It is on the table. Budgie World added it, and yes, it is safe 4 budgies.
To feed corn to your budgie do you cook it? Or do you feed it raw
I think raw. Yeah probably raw.
Thank you for your response I will try it
My budgies love the corn cobs after I cut the cooked corn off.
Is purple cabbage safe? It doesn’t say about it.
Thank you for letting me know, All Cabbage types are added now.
You can search in the table for “Cabbage” and see all the types.

I believe this video will help you out => https://youtu.be/zB3il0CZlFo

Please give me an answer i want to know if paper is safe for budgies to eat because i cant find an answer anywhere
Yes it is safe, if it has ink written on it, you need to make sure the ink itself is safe, but if we are talking about blank paper, then yes it is safe
Can they eat banana peel or banana pepper and lastly tomatoes
They should eat only banana fruit, not the peel. ALL RED tomatoes in SMALL quantities are ok but if you dont Fred them tomatoes It Is better
Feed, not Fred…. Automatic corrector!
Could not find if plums were safe thanks
Plum is in the table, just use the search for “plum” don’t include plural when searching for something
i have this plant in my house and want to if it is safe. it is a “peace lily” i cant find it on this website please respond.
according to this site it is not safe https://homeguides.sfgate.com/kinds-house-plants-can-budgies-eat-96885.html
WOW EVEN THOUGH I DONT HAVE A BUGGY IT IS SO AMAZING I HOPE MY DAD SAYS I CAN HAVE ONE.
Uhh its spelt budgie no offence! I love budgies to! They are so cute and soft! ^-^
If u are planning get 2 budgies…. Don’t get single..
Make sure your dad has lots of money, they need six monthly health checks with the vet which cost me $100 NZD per bird. Apart from that i’ve spent $5000ish on two very sick budgies in the same year, both with issues that were not avoidable, one was old age cancer and the other a rare genetic disorder. They are not cheap animals to be a parent to, but they are worth every dollar.
No.
Monthly health checks lol. And who spends 500 on old and sick budgie. I bought 4 budgies. Never saw a vet and 4 yrs later still healthy. If get sick i end their life
nasty person budgies should be loved cared for not if get sick end life thats evil cruel if you get sick somebody should end your life evil person
is bread and cooked wheat safe ,its not mentioned
i saw him put toast for them in a video, so i think it is safe
I give mine country harvest bread. White bread is 1 gram of sugar away from cake so myself i would avoid white bread.
Bread is safe but not reccomended too much. Because it contains salt, gluten and lots of starch. It may be dangerous for continious using.
Are all mint plants safe like orange mint chocolate mint etc

salt is toxic !!!!!!!
Sorry, this is very random but I need to know if budgies can eat lipstick, my budgie accidentally nibbled on a part of mine that had been left open. He now looks like a hilarious clown but I need to know if it’s safe. Thanks
No its not safe!!! I hope your bird is doing well after 3 months!
How would i feed beans to my budgies? cooked or raw?
They should eat it raw, like the fruit they eat in Australia. I suggest to not cook bananas.
help please! i am getting a budgie soon. i had planned to give birdie free range of house and make house safe (and of course have cages and playstands, and not clip wings) BUT MY ENTIRE HOME IS MADE OF REDWOOD, INCLUDING LARGE BEAMS, RAILINGS STAIRS, MOLDINGS, ETC., AND I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT REDWOOD IS TOXIC. What do you suggest? i am very concerned! (and THANK YOU for your wonderful videos and information–i have not had a budgie since i was a child, and i have learned so much-so many things to do differently! THANK YOU for the tinme that you must spend, very generous of you sir.)
Hi! I just want to clarify if shampoo is toxic to budgies? Because one of my budgioes likes chewing my hair
I’m not an expert or anything. However, if you’ve washed out the shampoo and your hair is dry it shouldn’t hurt it. And if your shampoo is non-toxic (I don’t know if that’s a thing) then it should be fine. But just to be safe don’t let them chew your hair if it’s wet and has shampoo on it. Wash it out and dry first.
I couldn’t agree more with Cooper
what about tomato?
Toxic
is tomato toxic
yes
Are strawberry leaves toxic?
Strawberry leaves are safe for parrots, however make sure to rinse them thoroughly
Is Tomato toxic or safe for Budgies?
Toxic
ok, thanks
Can they eat pepper leafs? Specifically the Piper Auritum
Is this food item only for budgies or they are good for other birds like red rompers bird ?
are acorns safe, i heard the are toxic but did not believe it
I wouldn’t risk giving my budgies acorns.
There are plenty of safe food, why risk it?
Is oatmeal safe for budgies? I don’t own a budgie, I just wanna know.
Yes
This is really helpful especially for the budgie I got Thank you so very much for making this. 😀
Lettuce ?? its not on the list
Thank you for bringing it to my attention, yes it is safe. And it has been added to the list of safe food
Is rainbow chard safe for budgies? I didn’t see it.
What about tomatoes?
Toxic
Is milk safe for them?
No, it Will cause several digestive problems to a bird that eats it like diarrhea or something else.
No, they can’t digest the milk. But you can give yoghurt and white cheese without salt. Yoghurt doesn’t have milk sugar (lactos) and contains lot of beneficial bacteria.
omg, this is sooo helpful! I almost gave my budgie a toxic food and than i watched a video of toxic and safe food before i did, O-O close one
I live in the USA. I love this list as it helps me to get my budgies who have been “rehomed” three times onto a healthy diet that they love. This list I have in a folder on Chrome and I just load and go through quickly to know what they can/ can’t enjoy.
I’m happy you found it helpful, that’s why I added the search option, so people can find what they are looking for quickly and easily.
Thank you for your feedback
How is peanut butter toxic? I know raw peanuts are because aspergillus but peanut butter is cooked, so it would likely kill any fungus. I’ve seen videos of people using it to train budgies. So could you please clearify this for me? Thank you so much!
Peanut Butter contains aflatoxin, a carcinogenic substance that is harmful to budgies
I love this list and have referenced it for many bird owners. However, I was searching for lima beans and they are not on the list. Can my budgie eat these?
If you don’t see specific food on the list it usually means I don’t have enough information about it.
About your question if lima beans are ok, this is what I found on the internet by Bird Veterinarian: Dr. Lisa:
“Lima beans contain a cyanogenic glycoside called ‘phaseolunatin’. Beans which are grown in the US contain less than 0.01% which does not cause a problem.
There is a variety of small black lima beans grown in Puerto Rico which contain 0.3% and have been known to cause death in both humans and livestock.”
With that being said, the rule of thumb is better safe than sorry, if you aren’t sure about some food, just give them something that you know it’s safe, the list of safe and and healthy food for budgies is huge, just stay on the safe side 😀
Are bell peppers safe?????
Basically peolple want to say that pink salt not common salt is given to buggies and they are given to birds and its common here its good for the birds.
I am trying to figure out if only the seed of cilantro is safe.
Can budgies only have the cilantro seed or can they have the leaves and stem as well???
Rutabaga?
Sir why is Avocado fruit is toxic for love birds
It contains persin which is toxic to birds because if ingested can cause heart damage, respiratory issues, etc, and even sudden death. It’s toxic to all parrots.
what about rasbree
Why pepper is toxic? There is a lot of other people saying that peppers are actually healthy for budgies
Is tomato good for budgies
I wouldn’t recommend it since it is very acidic and is part of the nightshade plant family.
