Budgies the Sub Family of Parrots
Birds are Sub Family of Animals, Parrots are Sub Family of Birds, Parakeets are Sub Family of Parrots, and Finally Budgies are 1 type of many in the Parakeets family.
Basically all Budgies are Parakeets but not all Parakeets are Budgies.
- Parakeet Definition: “a small parrot with predominantly green plumage and a long tail.”
- Budgerigar Definition: “a small gregarious Australian parakeet that in the wild is green with a yellow head. It is popular as a pet bird and has been bred in a variety of colors.”
As stated by Lexico Dictionary
Although you can see many different colors of budgies, but this is all because of captive breeding that has started in England. Breeders could produce so many colors, that it has become the number one pet bird world wide!
But in the wild they actually fit the description of parakeet accurately.
The simplest way to explain the difference between a budgie and parakeet is by comparing it to cars.
For example: all Skoda cars are Volkswagen, but not all Volkswagen cars are Skoda.
