Corona virus from humans to pets?
Coronavirus aka covid19 is spreading fast in these days, and a lot of us can’t help but wonder, what about our pet birds? can they contract the virus? and if so how can we protect them?
Well, as of right now, there are no confirmed cases of any animal that got sick from covid19 by being transmitted a human to its pet.
The closest we got was in China where a dog owner was tested, and the results returned positive of having the corona virus. After that the owner’s dog was tested for the virus, and the results returned weak positive. Which basically means the dog is carrying the virus, but the dog never got sick.
It could be because dogs lick and sniff all their surroundings, and they found the virus in the dog’s oral and nasal cavities. That doesn’t mean the dog got the virus from its owner, it could be from anything it licked on any surface, since the virus is spread.
What about protecting our birds from the virus?
Does that mean we don’t have to worry about our pets?
well, although there hasn’t been any case where a pet got infected from its owner.
But let’s stay on the safe side, your dog or cat might lick your hand, just wash it carefully afterwards.
Specially before interacting with your birds.
If the covid 19 virus is already spread in your area, I would suggest you not to let your birds out, and keep them in your home, so they don’t contract the virus from the outside.
before contacting your birds, always wash your hands, and if you can change your cloths, that’s great in case the virus got on your shirt or anything that you are wearing.
